Bob Philp (left) presents the medal to Miss Eng.PSC Golf from The Billabong BarMonday, July 23, Royal Lakeside – StablefordWe hadn’t played this course in the last 6 years and it has changed somewhat in that time and all for the better, the course is in fantastic condition with greens that just roll and roll. With 4 groups playing we were away early as there was nobody else on the course at that time. There was a lovely breeze blowing that kept the heat at bay and made for some tricky shots; any bad shot was punished quite severely from time to time as there is water on most holes. The prizes went down to 3rd spot which was won by Jeff North on a count-back over Mike Stennett, both on 35 points. George Way was relegated to 2nd place, also on a count-back as John Cogan took the top spot on 37 points. There was only one ‘2’ today, coming from Bill Marsden.Wednesday, July 25, Green Valley – Monthly MedalThe Haven Consultants Monthly Medal is always well supported but, unfortunately, our long time sponsor was unable to attend today. The preparations for the Singha Championship, to be played at Green Valley, are well underway and the course was looking good apart from the inconsistent bunkers, with some compacted and others with softer sand. The scores today were off the charts. Miss Sa had a very good round and came 3rd with a net 69, Miss Pin played really well for 17 holes only to take a 7 on the 18th for a net 65, losing on a countback to Miss Eng who had 9 pars in her round to win the medal. Two triple bogies for Mike Stennett on the outward nine did his chances of winning no good at all but he stepped up a gear on the back nine for a net 70 and 4th place. Capt. Bob was having an excellent round until his putter decided to go on strike and he three-putted the last three holes for a net 69, level with Auke Engelkes for 2nd place but Auke played par golf on the last 8 holes for an inward score of 37. Jeff North also came good on the way home to drop only 1 shot on the last 9 holes for a net 68.Only one 2 today and that went to Fergus Brennan.Friday, July 27, Plutaluang – 4M-ScramblePlutaluang golf was the venue for the Billabong monthly scramble as Phoenix was closed for the Royal Trophy tournament. With just 9 groups playing it was an early start with some teams ahead of the allotted tee time by as much as 30 minutes.Jeff North (left) receives his medal from Selwyn. We played the East and South loops which were in great condition, with greens that were just the right pace. The scoring was quite good with the worst round coming from the Kiwi connection but being their first time in this event not really a problem.Second place was taken by the Courtyard Calvaliers of Jeff North, Geoff Couch, Chris Brendle and Graham Beaumont with a net score of 58.8, falling just short of the top spot which was taken by the team of Paul Hack, Arch Armstrong, Gary Ritchie and Bill Collis with a net score of 57.8.
