Miner dies after boat slams into tree stump

first_imgThree days after a boat reportedly crashed into a tree stump in the Mazaruni River, the body of one of the miners was pulled from the river on Tuesday evening. The dead miner has been identified as Leslie Blair, 24, of Berbice. He was reportedly pulled from under a “dragger”.According to information received, Blair and three others left a mining camp on Sunday evening with the aim of visiting a drinking spot in the area. As they were heading to the shop, the captain of the boat reportedly lost control and slammed into the tree stump resulting in them being thrown overboard.Dead: Leslie BlairThose who survived told Police that they heard Blair breathing loudly and saw him swim towards a log, but that was the last time they saw him alive. Blair was responsible for security at the mining camp and was not supposed to leave the premises on the night he met his demise. A post-mortem examination is expected to be performed shortly.last_img
