Senior Flyers fall to Clarenville 9-3

first_imgIt was clear from the outset that it would be a difficult game for the Flyers as Clarenville did a great job from the opening face-off getting in the way of passing lanes, and forcing the play. The Flyers however did jump out to a 1-0 lead to open the scoring on the power play as Ryan Carter fired a shot from the top of the face off circle. The Caribous tied the game with just under three minutes left as Dale Sullivan got the tying marker, and led in shots heading to the dressing room 15-6.Clayton Pool did his best to hold the Flyers in the game, and made some stellar saves in the second period, but left the game due to injury following  a sprawling save on an odd man rush.- Advertisement -The Flyers were still in the thick of things entering the final stanza as they trailed 3-2, despite being out-shot  23-9. However a major penalty via a slashing call would be the straw that broke the camel’s back, as Clarenville scored five times during the man advantage to take a commanding 8-2 lead by the time the teams returned to even strength. The Flyers have Wednesday to rest up and prepare for Thursday’s quarter final game. Their opponent, however, is yet to be determined.last_img
