Man United summer signings watch: Di Maria, Herrera and Blind shine in QPR thrashing

first_imgHaving impressed throughout United’s pre-season campaign, the Spanish playmaker was again one of the outstanding performers for the Old Trafford outfit. His trickery around the box created two quick chances for Juan Mata and Robin van Persie in the opening stages, and he scored a deserved goal – his first for the club – to double United’s lead, hammering home a low shot from Wayne Rooney’s lay off.The strike only increased his confidence, and the 25-year-old later turned provider for his captain and for United’s third after playing a neat one-two with Mata on the edge of the area.Daley Blind – 8/10 6 6 A typical no nonsense performance from the Netherlands international, who protected the back-four in the holding role with ease against the promoted side.Composed and tidy on the ball with the good distribution United have often lacked in recent games, he made no telling contribution in attack, but it’s United’s defence which has often been their undoing since their fall from grace and his presence was crucial in stopping that gap.Radamel Falcao – N/A 6 The on-loan striker was forced to start on the bench with Van Persie and Rooney preferred up front and was only given 20 minutes to shine on his debut, but was given a hero’s welcome by the Old Trafford faithful. When the time came for his introduction the pace of the game had slowed considerably and, in truth, he saw little of the ball. The Colombian did have a great chance to net a fifth, though, but couldn’t beat Rob Green from close-range on the rebound following Blind’s long-range effort. However, it seems only a matter of time before the prolific goalscorer finds the net in a United shirt.Marcos Rojo – 7/10 Louis van Gaal finally claimed his first win as Manchester United manager as his new-look side smashed Queens Park Rangers 4-0 at Old Trafford. The Theatre of Dreams was buzzing with anticipation ahead of seeing new heroes Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Daley Blind in action – see how they fared below!Angel di Maria – 9/10 New manchester United stars Angel di Maria and Daley Blind 6 6 A solid debut from the young Argentine. Impressively mobile on the left and often pelted up the pitch in support of his team-mates’ attacking moves. It wasn’t a flawless start from the 24-year-old, as a moment of miscommunication with goalkeeper David de Gea resulted in a great chance for QPR to equalise in the first-half, though his blushes were spared by Johnny Evans’ brilliant recovery.Such is his speed and proficiency at left-back, though, that fellow summer signing Luke Shaw, who sat the whole game on the bench, may find it difficult to force him out.Man United fans, what did you think of the performances of your summer arrivals? Comment below… A Man of the Match worthy performance from the British-record signing, who opened the scoring for the revitalised Red Devils with a fortunate cross-cum-shot free kick.Lively down the left but often a marauder around the pitch in search of the ball. Got the better of his marker multiple times but failed to really threaten with his deliveries from wide in the early stages. The Champions League winner grew into the game though, and showed just how deadly he can be, becoming the driving force behind all of United’s best forward moves. His scampering run on the flank led to United’s second goal and he provided a great pass into Juan Mata for their fourth.Ander Herrera – 8/10 6last_img
