Door opens for Man United to swoop for German ace

first_img Ilkay Gundogan Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race to sign Ilkay Gundogan in a development which opens the door for Manchester United to sign him.The German giants had been ready to poach the 24-year-old from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund but will not meet his £5m-a-year wage demands.The talented central midfielder is out of contract at the end of next season and has reportedly rejected the chance to extend his stay at Signal Iduna Park.United have been tracking the Germany international extensively throughout the past year and, according to German newspaper Bild, United are willing to agree to a big-money deal.Dortmund feel they need to cash in on Gundogan this summer and sources close to the Die Borussen club have revealed they are looking for a fee of £15m.This would put the midfield man close to the top of Louis Van Gaal’s summer wishlist as United seek to strengthen the squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.Gundogan has made 31 appearances this term, scoring three times. 1last_img
