John: “I’ve been doing this for 18 years. It started off with just one little snowman, and it seemed like every year it just grew and grew. Every year it just keeps getting bigger, bigger and better.” This will be the 18th year that John and Brenda Klimpke have done their annual lights display. The lights will be on from 5-10:30 p.m., from December 1 through January 1. To find the Klimpke display, take the Kenai Spur Highway to South Miller Loop Road. Go past Holt-Lamplight to the second street on the right, then the fourth driveway on the right, 52825 Blueberry Avenue. The light display features a motorcycle riding Santa, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, and Santa and his sleigh streaking through the night sky above a life-size doll Ferris wheel. Visitors from all over the Kenai Peninsula, and even some from Anchorage have flocked to see Klimpke’s lights over the years. Christmas decorations fill their yard and according to John he uses miles and miles of extension cords: “Miles and miles is right. We quit counting, but one year my daughter counted 23,000 lights, but we double that now.” Santa will be visiting the lights display on December 20 through 23, from 6-9pm.
